The BDMHA executive would like to take this opportunity to update the membership on the latest details for the 2020/21 Season. We are currently working on preparations for the coming season, following the guidelines of the OHF/OMHA, the County of Brant and Operations of the Burford Community Center.BDMHA's return to play policy and procedures will need to be submitted to the OHF prior to being able to start up our 2020 season.
From the last update from the OHF/OMHA, here is what we are currently looking at for a season.
Start Date – tentative set to start having access to ice on September 12 (pending ice contract from County of Brant and approval from the OHF). Ice in Burford to begin Sept. 18th.
Season Format – there will be no official leagues or play-offs/playdowns for the 2020/21 season. There are no Rep leagues/games (Southern Counties) or Local League games/play-offs (Intertown). This will mean that there will be no tryouts at the start of the season. Practices/skill development programs will be run for each age group through the first 4-6 weeks of the season. This will lead into the formation of 10 player “bubbles” or teams.
The OHF has approved centers to move into what they are calling “Phase 3A” of their Return to Play program. This allows up to 25 people on an ice surface (combination of coaches/trainers/players/officials). In addition, Phase 3A allows for non-contact games of 3 on 3 or 4 on 4. To facilitate these games, rosters of 10 players (or less) will need to be assembled.
We have been in discussion with Paris and St George (as they fall within our health unit) to set up a program that will allow us to interact and play games against each center. This proposal will need to be submitted to the OMHA for approval. If approved, we would be hoping to be able to start scheduling/playing these games by mid-October.
Game format – has not yet been clarified as we are waiting for clarification on the game format and officials from the OHF/OMHA. What we do know is that each team of 10 players will need to be rostered with one coach and one trainer to make a 12-person bench for games.
Player Movement - we have been advised in the latest memo that there will be no player movement/transfers between centers. We are waiting for clarification from the OMHA/OHF on this as it has been interpreted in two ways. As soon as that is provided, we will update the membership.
Facility Policy – we have started to receive some of the guidelines from the County on the operation of the Burford Community Center and BSC. What we can update you is the following:
Dressing Rooms – access to dressing rooms will be limited to 4-5 players. Players will only have access 15 prior to their ice time and 15 minutes after. Due to this restriction, there will be recommendations for players to come dressed where possible. This will be detailed further in our submission to the OHF/OMHA.
Showers – there will be no access to showers.
Ice allocation – the County is currently working on its ice allocation for the 2020/21 season.
We will update everyone again, once the BDMHA Return to Play has been approved, so all members know what the expectations will be for the 2020 season.
Cost - we are assessing our registration numbers at this time that is why it is so important to register your player ASAP, as well as waiting on a finalized ice schedule.
